R. Kent Hughes, in the introductory thoughts of the book, writes, "We will never get anywhere in life without discipline, be it in the arts, business, athletics, or academics. This is doubly so in spiritual matters."
Shortly after that, Hughes makes a true statement, "The Church in America needs real men, and we are the men!"
I encourage all of our men to grab this book and begin digesting it. I recently gave a tract produced from Crossway at our Baptist Men's Breakfast. The 10 disciplines offered in that small tract are developed and expanded upon in this book.

DIGEST THE BOOK
In each chapter R. Kent Hughes offers a section he calls "Food for Thought." This provides questions and further thoughts. As you read, journal the answers to those questions. Expand your answers to include how it applies to you. Then make a plan to perform them.
Take one discipline a month. That provides you with a two-month buffer in the year. It also allows you time to consume the materials (including the Scriptures). Look up each reference and write the verse out in full. This will change your life!
BE A MAN
God has called men to be the leaders in the church. Yet, men often let the ball drop. Be a man, a godly, disciplined man. You will glorify God, build up the church, and lead families after righteousness.
